About this calendar

At least 25,000 people per month read this page, so it's the place to be if you're having a graffiti-related show or a show with graffiti artists in it.
Your Show: Send ready-to-post plain text in email to info@graffiti.org and if it isn't obvious, explain why it's a graffiti-related event. Send the flyer later when it is done.
Think globally: Remember to include the name of your city, state, and country.
Strategy: Increase attendance and limit local competition by making early announcements. Last-minute posts might not be published.
Artists: Shows succeed when people show up! Just send us the location and the dates as soon as you schedule a show. Anyone can send in an event tip.
Undated: Recurring events, calls for participation, new publications and products move to the Ongoing events page after a few weeks.
Updated: About once a week or so.

Looking for more toys and books? See below, then go to the Ongoing page to see other new releases. See also graffiti publications, and please support Art Crimes and this calendar by buying stuff from our store.

From Back Alleys to Industrial Wastelands: The Distinctive Art of San Francisco

Mark Batty Publisher, a leader in distinctive books covering the graphic and communication arts, has released "Bay Area Graffiti" by noted San Francisco photographer Steve Rotman. It is the first book to focus on how this explosive cultural phenomenon runs rampant throughout the region.

With more than 700 photographs and personal descriptive commentary from over 50 of the featured artists, "Bay Area Graffiti" is an unrelenting documentation of the graffiti culture that evolved between 2004 and 2008 in the region, and how it blended into the urban and natural landscapes.

Rotman, better known in the cyber world as Funkandjazz--he was a jazz disc jockey and public radio announcer for many years--has been photographing Bay Area graffiti for more than a decade, posting much of it online. His personal desire for a more permanent record of his work was met with similar requests from many of his online followers. The result is "Bay Area Graffiti."

Born and raised in Minneapolis, Rotman moved to San Francisco to work in radio and, while there, became fascinated with the graffiti scene, which to him seemed to match the city's energetic and continually shifting cultural revolutions.

"I love color, and graffiti is full of great, brilliant combinations of color, as well as fascinating shapes and an undeniable vibrancy. I wanted the book to convey and celebrate the considerable dedication and creativity within the Bay Area graffiti culture," Rotman explains. "It is very gratifying to preserve the art and perspectives of these extraordinary graffiti writers."

U5:The Truth Behind The Lives

u5coverx.jpg by J. B. Torres

This book is written to provide insight on the lives of a group of inner city youths known as U-5. Hopefully it will provide enough of the insight needed to truly understand the type of lives they led, the way they were perceived by others, and the repercussions of events set in motion by the actions of individuals within the group. Furthermore, it will focus on two individuals within the group (Daniel Gomez and Rubin Fernandez aka Soni and Slick), the mystery surrounding their deaths and the repercussions that affected various members of U-5 up until this very day. It will take a look at how graffiti writers were/are portrayed by what we call ‘society’ and go into what I believe are inconsistencies depicted within the book "Subway Lives." It will take you into the heart of Bushwick, Brooklyn where it all started and twenty years later, today. It will follow them into some of their many escapades, some incomprehensible to believe, yet true. You'll get a true sense of the type of people they were, as friends, family and professionals tell us a little about them. Then you will be introduced to U-5 as not only a crew, but as a concept.

Mastering the Heights

The current incarnation of the peripatetic Martinez Gallery is an apartment in Washington Heights that is more artwork than art gallery. Amsterdam-based designers Kaptein Roodnat have altered the apartment’s basic structure, and redefined its integrity and boundaries, slicing into walls, opening rooms into one another and incorporating outdoor spaces. In staging such a dramatic intervention in a rented apartment, the designers have transgressed against private property to create a space for public speech. Just as graffiti seeks to bring art into working-class urban neighborhoods, this new project brings street art indoors, showcasing affordable art in the context of affordable housing.

The space’s spirit of transgression, intervention and re-construction has been carried forward in the contributions of a dozen graffiti artists, with several taking on an iconic masterwork of art history. Kez5 domesticates Rodin while remodeling all doorways, and contributing to the sculptural reliefs of the baseboards of the apartment, always inspired by the French sculptor’s seminal Gates of Hell. NOXER maps the European continent via the modernist fascination with African art, while vampirizing Picasso, Modigliani, and “supervillains” in his guise as “Blackman.” CASE 2 riffs on Pollock, replacing drips with cartoon splashes and patterns on the floor. And, with punk sensibility, BRAIl chops up Aztec art, carving bas relief figures that dance apart from their static surfaces to tunes composed by Wifredo Lam. Even RATE takes on the role of connoisseur, curating a selection of drawings that are displayed in heavy museum frames left leaning against the wall: the drawings are by graffiti writers and kings including TyKE, BRAIl, MÖSCO, EARSNOT, COCO 144, VFR, SKUF, FlINT 707, gIZ, MICO and TRACy 168.

All surfaces and masterworks are either assaulted or re-invigorated by the artists. Nothing is left untouched. And, as result, both in the place and in the artists works, we are gradually exposed to conflicting notions of space and time that reflect the ongoing preoccupations with history and novelty, memory and experimentation, repetition and difference.

This apartment-cum-museum also includes a study center of books by artists and critics.

Guided tours are available.

An Italian Street Art Retrospective

The Brick Lane Gallery is proud to present "Via Brick Lane E1", an exhibition showcasing works by a selection of Italian Street Artists, reunited for the first time in a London gallery. The exhibition will showcase nine of the most established Italian artists, some of which are represented in major collections worldwide and have a regular presence in international exhibitions and biennales.

Inspired by various art-historical movements as well as cultural references, these artists bridge the gap with the previous generation of Street Artists by developing new and innovative techniques of production and creation.

Continuing an affinity with the traditions of graffiti and stencils, the works are also intricately linked to the urban environment which the artists use to present subtle critical comments of today‚s society. Their aim is to create a guerilla-based freedom of expression which can compete with the market forces and their commercial visual impressions. Using the city‚s landscape, content and design as a source of inspiration to create a new global language, they attempt to make their works as visible as possible in our current jungle of endless signs, logos and commercial advertising.

Artists include: 108 from Alessandria, El Gato Chimney, Orticanoodles, Ozmo, Pho, Santy and Termine Growth from Milan, Lucamaleonte and the Sten/Lex duo from Rome.
